More than 4,000 sound effects recorded by me at various points between 2005-2023, available for free.

  • All of the sounds are 24 bit, 48kHz WAV files.
  • Most of the sounds are things like metal hits, footsteps, office sounds, materials, etc.
  • The majority of the files are in mono.
  • The "Recorded" pack is the bulk of the sounds - sounds that I recorded with a microphone.
  • The "Designed" pack is sounds I've put through various filters to create new effects.

All of the sounds are available to you on a completely royalty-free basis. You can use these sounds in as many projects as you like, either personal or commercial. You are not required to credit me.

The only restrictions on the usage of these sounds are:

  • These sounds cannot be used for any national government projects (military recruitment, etc.)
  • These sounds cannot be used for any law enforcement projects.
  • These sounds cannot be used by any group categorized as a hate group by the SPLC or CAHN.

I'm not a professional sound engineer, but I've gotten a lot of use out of these sounds over the years and I hope you can get some use of out of them as well. Special thanks to scuffy for helping me record a number of the outdoor sounds!

Tipping is neither required nor expected, but always appreciated!

Thank you very much. This is a blessing.

holy shit it's weird running into FilmCow again. I recognized the name from 20 years ago with the cartoons.

Thank you for making these! I used them in my game BOREWORKS and credited you.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4814630/BOREWORKS/

It's amazing to see filmcow improving the world

It’d be great if these were CC0, but unfortunately, the restrictions prohibit that.

(+1)

Yeah, it's really sad when non professionals create their own crayon licenses. Obviously hate group people are scumbags etc, but these terms make it a non-free license that can't be safely used as per https://opensource.org/osd

5. No Discrimination Against Persons or Groups

The license must not discriminate against any person or group of persons.

6. No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor

The license must not restrict anyone from making use of the program in a specific field of endeavor. For example, it may not restrict the program from being used in a business, or from being used for genetic research.

Thank so much.

Thanks for this great collection. Can I use it to train my AI Model?

(+9)(-3)

pretty sure thats a *no* buddy

(+4)(-17)

Why? It is a royalty free. What do you think AI Training is? I'm not suno :-)

(+5)(-3)

It means you don't have to pay the OC royalties for using their work in your projects. It doesn't mean you can use their work to train an AI model.

(+3)(-15)

That is why I ask them. Are an admin by OC? I can pay an extra if OC agree

(+12)(-3)

Extra? You never payed an upfront cost to begin with. It's not rocket science to take one look at the OC's page and see that they have purchasable items on their Itch page, which probably means, no, they would not be happy with you taking their kindly made Royalty Free work and feeding it into AI where it will then become apart of a larger ecosystem of AI trained sound effects all based on their hard work. There's also a license, if you've even read that!

(+1)

Love your work, thank you for everything you do!

(+2)

Hello! The license makes no mention of editing the sound effects (e.g pitch shifting, cropping, shortening length, etc), is that allowed?

(+2)

I'm not FilmCow, but generally speaking, the terms outlined here would make it perfectly legal to edit the SFX in any way you see fit. Later packs are also explicitly stated to have been recorded at super high resolutions specifically for editing.

You are my hero! Thank you so much! This makes my life so much easier.

Question, By "Law enforcement projects", does that exclude games with police in it?

(+1)

obrigatory "im not OP nor a lawyer" disclaimer but it seems as if OP is against supporting real life police and not like, idk, a FPS or horror game. sounds like itd be aokay if you used it in ur project

I have a game called "Stark Penitentiary" that I developed in high-school everyday with all the freetime that i had back then, but I recently privated it as I've been remaking and redeveloping the game. Would that project be something allowed yall think?

(+1)

definitely . It’s more like if you were making a police training video or a commercial paid for by the police about how aweSuM police are. You’re not doing any law enforcement it’s a game.

lmfao thank you, you're a sweetheart. lol.~ I try to stick to the rules, game dev means a lot to me fr lol~

This is amazing. Whose cat is meowing?

Thanks!

(+1)

Thank you so much for this. You did a looot of sounds !

Used some for my gamedevjs jam game and credited you : https://nihdao.itch.io/nano-revolt

(+3)

The license makes no mention of this so I want to ask - what's the terms when it comes to redistribution? Namely, use in an open-source game project where the files would be openly available along with the source code and art of the game.

Hi there, just to say thank you for sharing your content... quite a lot in these packs! I've used some of these SFX from this and one of your other packs in a demo I've recently updated: https://ringot.itch.io/backtothedark

Incredible library of sound effects! We used some of them in our game jam game (and credited you): https://almanak-games.itch.io/baba-yaga-prologue

Love your work!

Thank you for these! I'm excited to try them out in a new game I'm making!

With the previous upload, nothing, I accidentally re-uploaded an old version. With this new one - minor trimming of silences that I've done since release. The changes are very minor so there's probably no need to re-download.

Thank you so much for sharing these amazing effects!

(+1)

Hi FilmCow,
Thanks for providing these SFX under a flexible license! I used a couple in my game submission to the Godot Wild Jam #62.

These sounds are so well done and well made and just absolutely amazing, thank you so much.

These are great. I'll be using the alien ones for the Andromeda section in Vapor Trails.

(+2)

ur a hero

This is amazing!  Thank you for sharing such quality content!

dude this fucking rules

I saw your video about sound effects and reporting groups like Sidearm Studios... I just want to say thank you so much for that. I'm one of the people affected and was really upset, so it really brightened my day when you mentioned your free sound effect pack here. Hopefully I can replace the bulk of the sounds in my game with yours, otherwise I'll try with extreme novice-ability at creating ones for any that don't quite fit haha. And though you say credit isn't needed, I will definitely credit you. Thank you so much again!
